Meeting Room: Gym
This activity will include a variety of activities such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, weightlifting, ping-pong, touch football, softball, track, etc. Specific activities will be announced by the instructors throughout the school year and sign-ups will be held at that time. A CPR Course/First Aid will also be offered during the winter months.

FitnessGram Information
What is a fitness gram? FITNESSGRAM is a valuable tool that helps assess a young person's fitness level and identifies ways to improve fitness and health. FITNESSGRAM is designed to promote enjoyable, regular, physical activity and provide comprehensive physical fitness and activity assessments and reporting prgrams for children and young adults.

Tips for increasing physical activity in your family:
  • Provide a safe play area for your child and opportunities to be active.
  • Provide equipment and supplies for your child to be active.
  • Encourage your child to play outside instead of watching TV or playing computer games.
  • Participate in physical activities with your child.
  • Work with your child on physical skills so they will feel competent and eager to play.
Performance Standards
FITNESSGRAM evaluates fitness performance by using objective, scientific standards that have been established to represent a level of fitness necessary for health. Performance is classified on two areas:
  • Needing improvement
  • Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ)
All students should strive to achieve a score that places them inside the HFZ. Students who desire to achieve a high level of athletic performance may consider working with their teachers, coach, or parent to set goals beyond the HFZ.

Why is physical activity important?
Good health and positive self-esteem often determine the future well-being and success of children and young adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence.
  • Improves strength and endurance
  • Helps build healthy bones and muscles
  • Helps control weight
  • Reduces anxiety and stress and increases self-esteem
  • May improve blood preasure and cholesterol levels
Young people may engage in physical activity simply because it is fun. But the truth is, the long-term consequences of not being active are serious.
  • Physical inactivity is the second leading cause of preventable death. Only tobacco use causes more preventable deaths.
  • Adults who are less active are at greater risk of heart diseases and developing diabetes, colon cancer, and high blood pressure.
